It’s time to get healthy! Wait… I already know what you’re going to say. You don’t have time, right?!?! Please hold the applause until the end of this post then feel free to give a standing ovation. Okay, I can get pretty passionate sometimes, so consider yourself warned. When I hear someone say they don’t have time when it comes to something health related, I pretty much have the same reaction as when I hear the word… oh, am I really going to type it…‘diet’ (grimace, gag, dry heave). If you have time to watch The Bachelor (enter your favorite guilty pleasure show here), play video/computer games, check Facebook or Pinterest or Twitter, take a nap, or even read this post, YOU HAVE TIME TO GET HEALTHY! Do you drink during the day? Then choose to drink water instead of that Coke you just picked up! Do you eat during the day? Then choose to eat an apple or protein bar instead of those highly processed, sugar filled snacks you just bought out of the vending machine! Do you have 30 minutes while the kids are napping or having quiet time? Then choose to use that time to do a Jillian Michaels circuit training workout! Are you going to bed way too late? Then choose to turn the lights out earlier in order to give yourself a quality 7+ hours of sleep! Do you need to go to the third or fifth or twentieth floor to get to your office? Then choose to take the stairs instead of the elevator! Healthy living doesn’t take...

Have you stopped dieting? Have you figured out what’s motivating you? Have you decided to improve your lifestyle? Well done! Here are my 6 easy health steps AND yes, I actually do all these things and enjoy it! Pst… don’t forget to check out my eBooks that have even more ideas on how to get and stay healthy. 1) I drink water and only water. Usually anywhere from 2-3 liters a day. Those zero calorie drinks or drinks starting with that evil word ‘diet’ are lying to you! Even though the nutrition facts say zero calories or no sugar, your body isn’t getting the message. Those artificial sweeteners do the exact same things as sugar! Check out this episode on Katie Couric’s show where research shows sugar and artificial sweeteners are 8 times more addicting than cocaine! 2) I only eat and purchase prepackaged foods with natural and pure ingredients. If I’m purchasing frozen blueberries, I only want to see ‘blueberries’ under ingredients and not added sugar or a list of chemicals that I struggle pronouncing! If I have no idea what the ingredient is, I’m pretty sure my stomach doesn’t know how to digest it. I can’t stress it enough… READ THE INGREDIENTS! 3) I eat fresh fruits and vegetables with each meal. I’m a fruit/veggie-aholic. I love crisp, juicy apples diced in my oatmeal. I love snacking on edamame sprinkled with salt. I love freshly washed red grapes… oh, are you still there? Sorry, I was swept away by my fruit/veggie fantasy. I’m back. I eat pure and natural foods all day long, so I...

I despise the word ‘diet’. I know people who cringe or get the goose bumps from hearing words such as ‘moist’ or from the feel of velvet or the texture of yogurt. For me, it’s the word ‘diet’. I have to control my impulse to shutter, roll my eyes, gag, or run out the door when I hear someone say “I’m going to start my diet tomorrow” or “I’ve been really bad at my diet today”. This is a NO DIETING ZONE. Diet implies a beginning and an end, starvation, deprivation, celery only, punishment, torture, and just plain self loathing. I don’t diet. I don’t count calories. I live healthy. I actually ENJOY living healthy. I remember eating an apple and almond butter (my favorite snack) during a lunch break at work and someone commented on how much self control I had in order to eat the way I do. I was surprised she was so surprised that I actually, legitimately enjoy it! No torture, punishment, or deprivation here. If you’re dieting, stop. It will get you nowhere. You must change your lifestyle and attitude in order to have true success in reaching your health goals. I’m a Registered Nurse NOT a Registered Dietitian. Although I’m formally educated on how to resuscitate you when you drop dead from all those hamburgers and fries you eat, I’m not formally educated on all the mechanics and chemistry behind nutrition. It’s a passion of mine. I may unintentionally (or intentionally, but well meaningly) offend you on this blog, but my desire is to motivate you to make changes...
