What is Healthy Living?

What is Healthy Living?

This is my first video titled ‘What is Healthy Living?’  Does everyone hate watching themselves on video?  I could critique the coloring, lighting, and angle all day, BUT I believe in these 10 steps to healthy living SO I’m being brave and sharing. Also, don’t miss the bloopers at the end. Healthy living is NOT dieting.  Healthy living is a permanent change for the rest of your life.  It’s enjoyable, satisfying, and rewarding.  Here are my 10 steps to living healthy:   1)      Stop dieting.  I detest the word ‘diet’ hence why my site is called No Diets Allowed. Dieting is a quick fix to a permanent and much bigger problem.  Only healthy living will provide true weight loss and results.   2)      What’s your motivation? You must have a strong motivation for getting healthy.  Why do you want to get healthier?  Dig deep and figure out what’s truly motivating you.   3)      Make a decision and commitment to change.  It’s not temporary.  It’s a permanent change and you’re not looking back.   4)      Leave excuses behind.  If you really want to accomplish something you’ll do it.  If not, you’ll find an excuse.  One excuse that drives me crazy is ‘I don’t have time’!  Do you eat and drink during the day?  Then CHOOSE to eat fresh fruits and drink water.  Do you get enough sleep?  Then CHOOSE to go to bed earlier.  It’s a choice and we all have the ability to choose health.   5)      Only drink water.  Your body needs and craves water.  Zero calorie and ‘diet’ drinks have artificial sweeteners that act just as bad...

“Now that I’m reading ingredients, I’m discovering the foods I thought were healthy aren’t healthy at all,” Jessica said on the phone.  “I’m feeling like I have no idea what to feed my family.”  Step One and Two have been implemented, BUT Jessica has hit a roadblock…. discouragement.   We all have growing pains associated with change.  There will be some bumps and bruises, good days and bad, highs and lows.  This is when you dig deep and remember why you decided to change.  What’s motivating you to improve your lifestyle?  Bring on the inspirational quotes!   “Whether you think you can or think you can’t - you are right.”  ~Henry Ford   “Never give up.  Keep your thoughts and your mind always on the goal.  One of the secrets of success is to refuse to let temporary setbacks defeat you.” ~ Author unknown   “One of the hardest decisions you’ll ever face in life is choosing whether to walk away or try harder.” ~ Chelsea Harrington     Step 3:  Don’t get discouraged.  Keep focused on your ‘why’ and it starts becoming a lot easier.  It’s worth it!   How have you overcome discouragement when making healthy changes and choices?    ...
Secret Health Op: Step Two

Secret Health Op: Step Two

Jennifer has successfully started implementing Step One.  I think it’s time for Jennifer to graduate to step two.  Since she no longer purchases unhealthy junk such as soda, her husband now has to drive somewhere to purchase his beloved Mountain Dew.  Let’s congratulate Jennifer for refusing to buy that detestable  poison and starting to purchase new healthier, delicious options.  On to Step Two.   “What are some healthy things I can pack for my kids lunches?” Jennifer was grocery shopping and frustrated.  Her kids usual lunches include Hawaiian punch, fruit cups, PB&J, potato chips, and a cookie.   After discussing some healthy substitutions, she purchased water bottles, fresh fruit, ingredients for a healthy sandwich, Sun chips, and Clif bars.  As we ended our conversation she uttered, “I’m having to completely re-learn how to grocery shop.”   Step Two: Completely re-learn how to grocery shop.  First, make a list of healthy meals you plan to make within the next 10 days.  Begin your grocery list by writing down the needed ingredients from those recipes.  Next, use healthy substitutions and quick tips to find other ideas for snacks and add those items to your list.  While shopping, stick to your list, have self control, and READ THE INGREDIENTS ON EACH LABEL!     What challenges are you facing while re-learning how to grocery...

Secret Health Op: Step One

I began my first secret healthy makeover yesterday!  My close acquaintance, we’ll call her “Jennifer”, made me cross-my-heart-and-hope-to-die that I would not share her real identity.  Jennifer is extremely worried about her husband’s unhealthy habits.   He literally only drinks soda, only eats highly processed foods, goes to bed extremely late each night, doesn’t eat breakfast, has gained weight, gets winded with minor activity, is adamantly against changing eating/sleeping/exercising habits, AND he’s only in his thirties!  I’m nauseated just thinking about all his horrible health decisions.   This is scary.  Like Jennifer could be widowed sooner than later scary. Since I love Jennifer and her husband, this is personal.  I’m so grateful that Jennifer recruited me for this secret mission.   This will be quite the process, but I know healthy living will be in their future!  You know why?  It only takes one person in a household committed to making healthy changes!   As the main grocery shopper, Jennifer can control what options are available to those under her roof.  Her main concern/question: What if my husband gets upset and says he’ll go grocery shopping and buy what he wants anyway?  My answer: Hand him the keys, open the door, smile, and wave to him while telling him to enjoy himself shopping.    Even though I love food and cooking, I don’t love grocery shopping.  In fact, I don’t know anyone who does. Even if he’s stubborn enough to grocery shop a few times, I guarantee it will start to fade and will result in him defaulting to eating the delicious, yummy, mouthwatering, healthy food that’s already available...
My 6 Easy Health Steps

My 6 Easy Health Steps

Have you stopped dieting?  Have you figured out what’s motivating you?  Have you decided to improve your lifestyle?  Well done!  Here are my 6 easy health steps AND yes, I actually do all these things and enjoy it!  Pst… don’t forget to check out my eBooks that have even more ideas on how to get and stay healthy.   1) I drink water and only water.  Usually anywhere from 2-3 liters a day.  Those zero calorie drinks or drinks starting with that evil word ‘diet’ are lying to you!  Even though the nutrition facts say zero calories or no sugar, your body isn’t getting the message.  Those artificial sweeteners do the exact same things as sugar!  Check out this episode on Katie Couric’s show where research shows sugar and artificial sweeteners are 8 times more addicting than cocaine!   2) I only eat and purchase prepackaged foods with natural and pure ingredients.  If I’m purchasing frozen blueberries, I only want to see ‘blueberries’ under ingredients and not added sugar or a list of chemicals that I struggle pronouncing!  If I have no idea what the ingredient is, I’m pretty sure my stomach doesn’t know how to digest it.  I can’t stress it enough… READ THE INGREDIENTS!   3) I eat fresh fruits and vegetables with each meal.  I’m a fruit/veggie-aholic.  I love crisp, juicy apples diced in my oatmeal.  I love snacking on edamame sprinkled with salt.  I love freshly washed red grapes… oh, are you still there?  Sorry, I was swept away by my fruit/veggie fantasy.  I’m back.  I eat pure and natural foods all day long, so I...
